WhatsApp squashes big videos into a blurry mess or refuses to send them. Compress it here first: CompressPixel fits the video under 16 MB while keeping it as sharp as the size allows, then lets you share it straight to WhatsApp on your phone.

What is the WhatsApp video size limit?

WhatsApp has long used 16 MB as the limit for videos sent through the normal gallery picker and for Status updates, and it heavily re-compresses anything larger. Sending as a document allows bigger files, but the person then has to download it before they can watch. Getting under 16 MB first gives the best-looking result that plays instantly in the chat.

Tips for the best quality on WhatsApp

Trim the clip to the part that matters before compressing - a shorter video gets more quality per second. Removing sound on silent clips also frees up space for the picture.

Questions

How long a video can fit in 16 MB?

Roughly 1 to 3 minutes looks good. Around 1 minute at 1080p or 2-3 minutes at 720p. Longer clips still work but CompressPixel will lower the resolution to keep the picture clean.

Are my videos uploaded anywhere?

No. CompressPixel compresses the video inside your browser using your own device. The file never leaves your computer or phone, which also means there is no upload wait.

Why is it so fast on some devices?

Modern browsers can use your device's built-in video encoder (the same hardware your phone uses to record). When that is available CompressPixel uses it automatically. Older browsers fall back to a slower compatibility engine.

Which formats work?

MP4 and MOV (including iPhone HEVC videos), WebM and most other phone and camera videos. The result is always an MP4 (H.264 + AAC), which plays everywhere.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no limit set by us. Very large files (several GB) depend on how much memory your device has; a laptop handles more than an older phone.
