Why CompressPixel instead of other video compressors?

Most online video compressors upload your whole file to their server, make you wait in a queue, then cap the size or add a watermark. CompressPixel does the work on your own device, so a 500 MB phone video does not need to travel anywhere. It also guarantees the size: if the first pass lands a little over your limit, it automatically re-tunes and tries again.

How the size targeting works

You tell us the limit, we work out the bitrate. For long videos we also lower the resolution a step (1080p to 720p, for example) because a sharp 720p video looks better than a blocky 1080p one at the same size.

Questions

Are my videos uploaded anywhere?

No. CompressPixel compresses the video inside your browser using your own device. The file never leaves your computer or phone, which also means there is no upload wait.

Why is it so fast on some devices?

Modern browsers can use your device's built-in video encoder (the same hardware your phone uses to record). When that is available CompressPixel uses it automatically. Older browsers fall back to a slower compatibility engine.

Which formats work?

MP4 and MOV (including iPhone HEVC videos), WebM and most other phone and camera videos. The result is always an MP4 (H.264 + AAC), which plays everywhere.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no limit set by us. Very large files (several GB) depend on how much memory your device has; a laptop handles more than an older phone.
